MINOR ILLNESS ASSESSMENT


Pharmacists can assess, and if appropriate prescribe, for various minor illnesses. As of January 1, 2023, Ontario pharmacists are authorized to prescribe medications for 13 minor ailments that include the below. Learn which minor illnesses Pharmacists can help you with.

You may experience some of the symptoms below:
  1. Frequent urination, pain while urinating and difficulty holding in urine.
  2. Pain in lower abdomen and a small amount of blood in the urine.
  3. Absence of vaginal discharge.
  4. Cloudy or foul-smelling urine.

  5. NOTE: Pharmacists can only assess and prescribe for Females.
You may experience some of the symptoms below:
  1. Rash or bump around border of the lip.
  2. Presence of clear, sticky fluid around the rash.
  3. Itching, tingling, or burning may lead to the rash.
  4. Redness or inflamed skin around the rash.
You may experience some of the symptoms below:
  1. Itching, burning or swollen (with or without pain) around the anal / rectum area.
  2. Bright red blood during / after bowel movement.
  3. Constipation and difficulty in having a bowel movement.
  4. Presence of a lump in the anal / rectum area.
You may experience some of the symptoms below:
  1. Eye redness and difficulty opening eyes in the morning.
  2. Appearance of sticky or watery fluids from the eye.
  3. Mild scratching, itching, or burning sensation.
  4. Bright lights hurt your eyes.
You may experience some of the symptoms below:
  1. Stuffy nose or runny nose.
  2. Itchy nose, eye, or throat.
  3. Typically, more than 7 days of continuous symptoms.
You may experience some of the symptoms below:
  1. Pain and cramps in the lower abdominal area.
  2. Pain in the lower back and starting a few hours before onset of a period.
  3. Pain can last a few hours to days.
You may experience some of the symptoms below:
  1. Burping / stomach acid rise from the stomach into the mouth.
  2. Burning feeling in the stomach or lower chest rising to the neck.
  3. Trouble getting a good night’s sleep because of heartburn.
  4. Pain in the middle of the upper stomach area.
You may experience some of the symptoms below:
  1. Dry, red, and itchy skin.
  2. Cracked and oozed blisters.
  3. Darker or lighter patches of skin.
  4. Scaly and patchy skin.
You may experience some of the symptoms below:
  1. Tick bite by black-legged tick.
  2. A red lump present, but swelling, blistering, bruising, itching or other infections may develop.
  3. Mild allergic reaction (hives, rash, and light swelling at the bite site).
You may experience some of the symptoms below:
  1. Bump that changes into a blister surrounded by rash.
  2. Yellow discharge that dries to form a “golden” or “honey-colored” crust.
  3. Can affect face, arms or legs.
You may experience some of the symptoms below:
  1. White or creamy-white spots / patches on the lips, inside of mouth, tongue and / or the roof of the mouth.
  2. Cottage cheese-like appearance.
  3. Patches can be scraped off.
  4. Dry mouth and / or loss of taste.
You may experience some of the symptoms below:
  1. Small bump or blister. May feel pain, itching, redness or swelling.
  2. Feeling of a sharp burning pain which can sting.
You may experience some of the symptoms below:
  1. Pain, swelling or tenderness (light to medium)
  2. Redness or bruising
  3. Limited motion and muscle weakness
  4. Injury is associated with overworking or muscle / joint injured
